Apex Legends officially has a release date on Steam, but the game's highly anticipated Switch port just suffered a major delay. While PC players will be able to enjoy the popular battle royale on Valve's monolithic storefront early next month, Switch users will be left out in the cold until 2021. The news arrives courtesy of a recent blog post from Respawn Game Director Chad Grenier.

Starting with the more imminent release date, Apex Legends comes to Steam November 4 alongside the launch of the Season 7 Battle Pass. In that vein, those who previously partook in playing Apex on Origin will be able to switch back and forth between the two storefronts at will with full cross-progression support. In other words, any purchases you make on Steam will migrate to Origin and vice versa. Those who opt to play on Steam can also get these Valve-inspired gun charms for free.

All of that admittedly sounds very simple, but the situation with the game's Switch version sounds far more complex. 'We're still hard at work on the port, but in order to do justice to the game and make it into the great experience Switch players deserve, our team needs more time,' Grenier said. 'This year has brought on unexpected new challenges, to put it mildly, and we don't want to rush anything out.' When the game does launch on the eShop in 2021, however, it will arrive with the exact same feature set and crossplay capabilities as its PS4 and Xbox One counterparts. The concept of cross-progression doesn't yet seem to be in the cards for anything outside PC.

Apex Legends releases for Steam and Switch were first discussed during EA's EA Play livestream in June of this year. At the time Apex was expected to debut on both platforms by the end of the year, but it sounds like the Switch build has fallen victim to a few technical hurdles. The seventh season of Apex Legends has not been officially detailed, but in-game teasers suggest a new Legend named Horizon will play a big role in the next Battle Pass. Unfortunately, it sounds like Nintendo's hybrid machine won't be invited to the launch party.

Since Apex Legends is available on multiple platforms like Steam and Origin, for some players that have already downloaded the game on Origin, they might want to transfer the whole game to Steam without redownloading the whole game. However, is this even possible? Can you transfer Apex Legends from Origin to Steam?

Thankfully, this is possible, and today we will cover just that. You might expect that most players want to use Steam as their launcher because it is far more stable, and has been around far more than the Origin suite.

Move Apex Legends from Origin to Steam

There are a few precautions that you need to check-off the list before starting the transfer for Apex. These things include having the game already downloaded through Origin, and finding its install location.

Among these precautions, it is really important that you have the latest version for Apex Legends, in order not to wait for Steam to find the missing updates, and download them.

You can update it through the Origin client.

After that, you can proceed with the transfer for Apex Legends from Origin to Steam, and it goes as follows:

Find your old install location from Origin.
Launch Steam and then find Apex Legends and click install.
Choose a location for install and then open that location from your File Explorer.
Next, make sure that you cancel the Steam install, and quit Steam fully.
Transfer your whole old installation folder to the new one from Steam, and when prompted that files already exist, click “Yes to All” – to replace the files.
Once the transfer is completed, open your Steam application, find Apex Legends, and click install once more.
The files will start verifying themselves, and download any additional or missing files. You’ll be able to play Apex soon after that.

If you copied the old installation and pasted it to the new one, then you can delete the old one if you aren’t planning to play the game through Origin.
